Cambodia: The Places | Angkor Wat, Floating Village & Flooded Mangrove Forest

Whew!!! I have SOOO many pictures to process, and it’s been quite an overwhelming process. So glad to finally have a post up about Cambodia!! We got to see one of the seven wonders of the world in Cambodia. It was spectacular to say the least. Angkor Wat is the main temple attraction, but the whole area is phenomenal. Ry and I actually considered just staying at the beach for 4 extra days instead of making the trek to Cambodia. And, although tiring, it was worth it! We had a sweet awesome tuk tuk driver that I called ‘Mr. T’, and he drove us around for 3 days showing us everything, and he also took us to the floating village (most of my photos there are in the people post I’ve already done), and the flooded forest. We saw some pretty crazy stuff in Cambodia. One thing I wish I would’ve gotten a picture of was these guys driving through town, each with a dead whole pig on the back of their motorbike. Unfortunately I couldn’t catch it in time! We also witnessed crazy driving, and we thought a few times that we’d hit cattle or other various livestock, and die in SE Asia. We of course found Mexican food there as well, as we couldn’t live without it our whole trip!

On a sad note, It was pretty horrific to see the damage the Khmer Rouge caused to the people of Cambodia. We saw numerous warnings to not go “off the beaten path” as there are still active landmines throughout the country. So many people lived through the injustice to tell their story, and yet so many people didn’t. Unfortunately there are dictators like Pol Pot still around in many countries today, and the genocide and hatred brought on by them is running rampant. It just breaks my heart!

I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of our story:

Sunrise + Angkor Wat = Spectacular.

Sunrise + Angkor Wat = Spectacular. This is when I came up with my genius idea that they should have a Tuk Tuk parked in front of the temple for people to get Starbucks coffee since it was so cold! It could be called "The Buck Tuk". HEHEHE!

And, I think I want a huge print of one of the mangroves. Wow! You should look up on of my favorite artist’s, Thomas Struth, who those particular photos remind me of his work.

Your photos are truly spectacular! I am in love with all of them. Looking at them, my jaw literally dropped several times. You captured Cambodia perfectly and these images make me want to go back. Well done Katie!

Katie!
Thank you for sharing your adventure with all of us. I have never had a desire to go to Asia (I went as a child and was not impressed) – but you have totally revived my interest AND Paul’s! Which is totally strange because he hates traveling. You both look fantastic and your shots are moving!
